Michael Alan DeRuiter I imagined I was a baby with childhood schizophrenia listening to this, as I was lying in bed for the night. How I imagine that being like is that the infant would see metallic and insectlike prisms buzzing around their crib, and they wouldn't realize they're not really there. I mean it as the highest compliment. I enjoyed what a bizarre trip it was in my mind. Favorite track: Dawn of the Dachshund.

Recorded 2018-2020, I embarked on this project to keep myself busy during the first year of lockdown brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. With all this newfound time, I wanted to really push myself out of my comfort zone creatively. I ended up diving headfirst into the world of sound design and synthesis. Although decidedly a new direction sonically, this project also marks a return to my roots in another way, by pulling inspiration from the mashcore, breakcore, and internet music I used to listen to at age 16. Having to rely on the internet solely for social interaction, a number of these songs were written in part or wholly during twitch livestreams in the middle of the night where my viewers would give me feedback and silly ideas of things to add to each track. These have been paired with some other miscellaneous odds and ends from 2018 and 2019, resulting in a multi-genre journey through teenage nostalgia, trauma processing, and complete isolation. This is The Dawn of The Dachshund.

each track uses the fact that its digital hardcore in its own unique way each time, rarely sounding similar to the other despite generally being noisy and in your face. i find this to be especially helped by Machine Girl's usage of unique samples or their own voices, which i can barely understand but honestly it really adds to the charm and aesthetic of this release. i know this album is 7 years old at the time of writing this, but it still holds up incredibly well.
